| A truly clean dryer vent filter can make an impact on your power bill. You always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes....or so you thought you did. Hold the filter over the sink and run hot water over it. If the hot water just lays on top of the mesh it's becauce the dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh and that's what can burn out the heating unit or cause longer than normal drying times, using more electricity. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. The best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. That can extend the life of the dryer at least twice as long! Note: Turn on the hot water and take a little detergent and a nylon brush and give it a little scrub for about 30 seconds. |
